We blazing with excitement or eye-rolling with boredom?
Good Fortune, in theaters October 17
Quick Take: Budget heaven, powered by Aziz Ansari’s slick goofball banter.
BREAKDOWN
Story Hook: From down-n-out to champagne in the clouds. Aziz Ansari is Arj, a man who has followed all the rules straight into ruin. He gets a visit from a tiny-winged Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) who gifts him the opportunity to switch lives with a wealthy man he envies in a supernatural Trading Places twist of fortune.
Visual Impact: Like a Geico ad, Good Fortune takes the obscurity of where pain and humor create a crossroads and gives it sentient form. It’s both moody and bright, absurd and familiar.
Performance Promises: All we can say– KENU-NU! And as an angel, channeling that old-school Bill + Ted vibe. Aziz returns to the quick-fire wit and relatability that first made us fans.
Pertinents: From Lionsgate, this supernatural transformation comedy clocks in at 1 hour and 38 minutes. Written and directed by Aziz Ansari, it stars Ansari, Keke Palmer, Seth Rogen, and Keanu Reeves.
Verdict: The trailer makes one thing clear—this isn’t Constantine’s Gabriel, all Prada menace. It’s Keanu’s Party City Gabriel with stunted wings, but he’s the star that makes the whole thing shine. Ansari may have written and directed it, and even headlines as Arj, but in this trailer he and the rest of the cast feel like narrative chess pieces circling Reeves’ glow.
