Stitch Head, coming to theaters October 29
Quick Take: A menagerie of Frankensteinian misfits get caged for circus coins. And yes—it’s a kids’ movie.
BREAKDOWN
Story Hook: Based on the Guy Bass book, Stitch Head follows the eldest child of a mad scientist—an oddball caretaker who sets off to protect his home and find something of his own in the world: love, belonging and the chance to finally be seen. It’s a road trip of the heart wrapped in whimsy, shadow and a stitch of courageous coming-of-age.
Visual Impact: Man, it sure seems someone studied Tim Burton… hard. But also, Hotel Transylvania. The animation leans heavily on that lopsided, elastic gothic style.
Performance Promises: The expressiveness in Stitch Head is all in the big halo eyes—one blue, one brown. Like most touching family and holiday features, the true warmth is in the ensemble.
Pertinents: Directed and adapted by Steve Hudson, Stitch Head is an 1-hour, 29-minute animated feature starring Asa Butterfield, Joel Fry, Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, Fern Brady, Tia Bannon, and Jamali Maddix.
Verdict: The trailer gives off stitched-together vibes—equal parts kiddie spooky and family sweet. And while its influences are obvious, Stitch Head looks like it has something sincere to say about love, identity and what it means to feel remembered. If it leans into its own tenderness rather than just its quirks, this could be a little gothic bright light for the whole fam.
